Final project: Holiday Card

Tonight you will work on, and turn in, your final project. Take your class time to design a holiday card. It can be anything you'd like. No rules on this one. Make one for your family or friends. Make one for your boss or even one for Miss Chipps. If you ask her nicely, she may even let you print a couple of these to take with you so you may give them out.

But before you go, make sure to flatten your file and send a copy saved as a .jpg to me to grade. Use the naming structure: lastname_holiday.jpg

This project will count as your final exam grade (so please be sure to turn it in!) Since we won't have a formal exam, tonight's class will be your last. It's been a pleasure having you in class and I hope you enjoyed this semester! Enjoy your holiday break and I look forward to seeing you back in the spring!

work night

Keep working on your animal projects! You'll have until midnight Sunday night to turn them in.

As I said before, keep a high-resolution version in case we need to print them, but for this project, I want you to flatten your layers, convert your image size to no more than 800 pixels wide (or tall) at 72ppi. Save as a .jpg file using the naming structure: lastname_animalz.jpg and email to me by midnight on Sunday night.

Funny Photoshopped Animal

You will now take your well-honed Photoshop skills and create something fun! Your collage projects were great and now you're ready to take Photoshop to the next level! Tonight, you're going to create something totally new. Something no one has ever seen before! Tonight, you'll be creating. . .

Funny photoshopped animals!

Criteria for this project:
• Your images must be fairly high resolution (so we can print these if they turn out well.)
• You must use a minimum of three different animals to create your "new" animal. More=better.
• You must put your new animal into an unlikely background. (Can be funny, crazy, unbelievable, etc)
• Your photoshop work must be superb!

You will have all of tonight's class and all of Wednesday's class to work on these. I'll ask Miss Chipps how you're progressing to see if anyone needs more time after that. I want these to be PERFECT, so take your time!

Now, get to work!

(if you need some additional inspiration, type in "heavily photoshopped animal" into Google and do an image search. That's how I found the little critter pictured above.)

Extra work day

I was not aware that the SVHEC closed at noon last Wednesday, so I realized a lot of you may not have worked on your assignments as I had planned. So I'm going to extend the deadline on this project to midnight, Sunday, Dec 2nd. Please make sure to follow all previous directions and have your projects emailed to me no later than that date/time.

Take your time and do your best work!

Collage work night!

Take tonight's class to finish working on your collage projects. Please ask Miss Chipps if you have any questions about techniques and feel free to look back over the past assignments if you want to brush up. We're going to do a fun project starting on wednesday, so make sure you understand how each assignment works!

Don't forget to email me your project files by midnight on Tuesday night!

Now, let's combine these exercises

For tonight's assignment, I want you to incorporate a little bit from each of our last four assignments.

Go out and find four random photographs. Make sure they are all of adequate resolution (so you don't get pixelated pictures) and download or scan them. I want you to put together a quick collage using all four techniques we've used in the last four assignments:

• You must use multiple layers for your collage
• You must alter at least one layer's tonal range
• You must clone at least TWO items in your collage
• You must do your editing NON-destructively like in our last assignment

Once done, I want you to alter the image size (IMAGE > image size) to 72ppi and make your file no more than 8" on the longest side before saving. THIS FINAL STEP will also be graded, so do it correctly! Ask Miss Chipps for help if you need it!

Save your files using the following naming structure: lastname_collage.psd!!! (Don't save these as JPGs or I can't grade them!) then email them to me. It's the holiday weekend, so I'm going to give you a little longer to do this project. You can work on them tonight in class as well as Monday night in class, so MAKE THEM GREAT! This project is getting you prepared for the next one, so if you don't understand something, ASK!

Have these emailed to me by midnight on Tuesday, November 27th.

Take your time!!! Do great work!!!

Non-destructive editing

And finally, we will work on the exercises from Chapter 11: Non-Destructive Editing. You touched on some of these principles in the last chapter. Now you will get a chance to see what they can really do! After all, what can be more fun than Photoshopping a handlebar moustache on a cat?!?!

Use the following image for the Chapter 11 exercises:

Complete the exercises for Chapter 11, flatten, then save your final image using the naming structure: lastname_ch11.jpg and email to me before midnight on Tuesday night.
