You've all picked some great graphic art to show me for your first assignment! I can see why it inspires you to be creative! I liked that there was a variety of printed ads, neon signs, gig posters, album art and even M.C. Escher drawings! So with Escher in mind, that brings us to what I want to see next. . .
For your second assignment, I want you to pick a piece of FINE artwork that inspires you. Any fine artist's work will do but please pick a piece that has been published, or shown professionally. More importantly, pick a piece that you personally enjoy. Now remember, I'm talking about FINE artists here, not graphic artists. Painters, sculptors, etc.
Make sure to include ALL of this information as part of your assignment!
• Look for a large sized image of the selected artwork (at least 800 pixels wide - Heather will help you find a piece large enough if you ask her. Use google images and search by size!)
• Tell me the name of the artist
• Tell me the title of the work
• Tell me the date the work was created
• Tell me the media used to create the piece (wood, oil, collage, etc.)
• Tell me what style it is in.
• Tell me what attracted you to this piece. Avoid terms such as "I like" when describing it. Talk about it's elements, construction, media and possibly even the artist as a person.
Submit your artwork image, along with the above requested information in an email to me. Comment on this post and state the artist and title of the piece you chose.
Both your email to me, and your comment on this post are due by midnight on Friday!
Here's mine, to show you an example:
• Jasper Johns
• Target
• 1958
• Oil and collage (newsprint) on canvas
• Pop art and/or neo-dadaist
• Target is the main element, yet it leads nowhere. Attracted to the bold colors. Mixed media resulted in interesting surface texture on the painting. Used conventional materials in
unconventional ways. Jasper Johns did not finish college but served in the Korean war.
