Building your creative eye

Since our online text seems to be inoperative, let's try a different assignment.

A creative eye is necessary to be a good graphic designer. You must train your eye to look for design elements in ways unfamiliar to it. Once you can see these design elements, you will be able to utilize them in future projects and throughout your career.

Tonight, I will have you look for some of these design elements and show me how YOU see them.

I want you to find me photographs that display the following qualities. You can find these on the web or take the photos yourself. Either way! I want to see FIVE examples of each of these:

Pattern
Scale
Rhythm
Negative Space
Contrast

That's 25 total photos you must find or take!

I'm not looking to grade these as "right" or "wrong." I just want to see how you visually interpret each one. They must all be of DIFFERENT subject matter! No using the same photo five times and counting it as multiple categories. You can also take images of these five elements with your digital camera if you prefer. If you need to borrow a digital camera from the HEC, they are available during class to check out.

HOMEWORK
• SAVE ALL 25 OF YOUR PHOTOS AS .jpgs PLEASE!
• These will be due at the beginning of class on Monday.
• You have all weekend, so take your time and get me GOOD examples of these!
